• About Us

HERITAGE. EXCELLENCE. INNOVATION.

We Are Okrika Grammar School

Okrika Grammar School was founded in 1940 by the Church Missionary Society (CMS) under the auspices of Bishop A. M. Gelsthorpe and the Anglican Diocese of Okrika, making us one of the oldest and most distinguished secondary schools in Rivers State and the wider Niger Delta region.

For over 85 years, OGS has stood as a beacon of academic excellence, moral formation, and community pride built on the founding conviction that education should shape character, sharpen minds, and produce leaders.

"We are more than a school. We are a legacy, and we are building something extraordinary on top of it."

A History of Greatness

When the school opened its doors in 1940, its first principal, Mr. Ifediora Oli, admitted 60 pioneer students, 30 of whom were Okrika indigenes. Among that founding cohort were His Majesty King S.P.U. Ogan, Ado XIII, the late Amayanabo of Okrika, and Hon. Justice Jotham Fiberesima (JP), who served as the school's first Senior Prefect. From its very first day, OGS was producing royalty and leaders.

Over the decades, Okrika Grammar School has produced some of the most distinguished figures in Rivers State and Nigerian public life. The OGS alumni roll is not simply a list of names; it is a record of impact across every sector of Nigerian society.

  • Chief Rufus Ada-George — Former Governor, Rivers State

  • Sir Gabriel Toby — Former Deputy Governor, Rivers State

  • Hon. Justice Sika Aprioku

  • Dakuku Peterside — Former Director-General, NIMASA

  • His Majesty King S.P.U. Ogan, Ado XIII — Amanyanabo of Okrika

  • Hon. Justice Jotham Fiberesima JP — First Senior Prefect

A Legacy Restored

Following a comprehensive, state-funded renovation officially commissioned on March 13, 2025, OGS has been transformed into a world-class learning environment equipped to deliver education at the highest standard.

This is the foundation we stand on, and it is the standard we are committed to restoring and surpassing. We are restoring the Pride of Okrika and building the next generation of Niger Delta innovators.

KD Squares Minadiki Scholarship 2026

KD Squares Minadiki Scholarship 2026 — Meet Our 10 Awardees

May 18, 20267 min read

At KD Squares, we have always believed that education is the most powerful tool for transforming communities. This belief is what inspired the birth of the KD Squares Minadiki Scholarship — a programme dedicated to identifying and supporting academically promising students across our community who deserve a chance to fulfil their potential.

In May 2026, we proudly held the 2nd edition of the Minadiki Scholarship, recognising ten exceptional students from the University of Port Harcourt and Rivers State University across diverse fields of study. This 2nd edition also marked the beginning of a meaningful partnership with community leaders who share our vision — most notably, Engr. Thompson Isodiki, whose generous support has set a remarkable tone for the future of this initiative.

What Is the KD Squares Minadiki Scholarship?

The KD Squares Minadiki Scholarship is an annual scholarship programme established by KD Squares to provide financial support and recognition to deserving university students in the Rivers State region of Nigeria. The programme targets students who demonstrate academic excellence, resilience, and the potential to make a meaningful impact in their fields and communities.

The scholarship covers students across a broad range of disciplines — from medicine and engineering to law, mathematics, and the sciences — reflecting our commitment to fostering well-rounded development across all sectors of society.

Meet the 2nd Edition Awardees

A Special Acknowledgement: Engr. Thompson Isodiki

No account of the KD Squares Minadiki Scholarship 2nd edition would be complete without recognising the extraordinary contribution of Engr. Thompson Isodiki.

When KD Squares formally presented the inaugural scholarship awards, we had the privilege of meeting with Engr. Thompson Isodiki, who was then serving as the Local Government Administrative Head. The meeting was more than a formality — it was an affirmation of everything the Minadiki Scholarship stands for.

Engr. Isodiki warmly commended our initiative and encouraged KD Squares to sustain and grow its investment in the educational development of the community. His words reflected a shared conviction: that no society can progress without deliberately investing in the education of its young people.

What made his engagement truly exceptional, however, was what came next. In a powerful demonstration of personal commitment, Engr. Thompson Isodiki voluntarily pledged to personally sponsor two students in the next edition of the Minadiki Scholarship — entirely of his own accord, without any solicitation from KD Squares. And when we reached out to formalise that commitment, he fulfilled his pledge promptly and without hesitation.

This kind of leadership — one that goes beyond words into decisive action — is the spirit that the Minadiki Scholarship hopes to inspire across our entire community. We are deeply grateful to Engr. Thompson Isodiki for his belief in this vision and his tangible investment in the futures of our young people.

Why Community Scholarships Like This Matter

Nigeria has one of the largest youth populations in the world, yet access to quality education and financial support remains a significant barrier for countless talented students. Many academically gifted young people are forced to abandon their studies — not due to lack of ability, but due to lack of resources.

Initiatives like the KD Squares Minadiki Scholarship exist to bridge that gap — to ensure that financial hardship does not become the ceiling on a student's potential. By identifying promising scholars and providing them with both funding and recognition, we aim to:

  • Reduce dropout rates among talented students who struggle with tuition and study costs

  • Encourage academic excellence by demonstrating that hard work is seen and rewarded

  • Build community pride by celebrating our own young achievers

  • Inspire philanthropic culture by creating visible models of what giving back looks like

The enthusiastic support of leaders like Engr. Thompson Isodiki shows that when private organisations and community leaders align around education, the impact is multiplied far beyond what either party could achieve alone.

What's Next for the KD Squares Minadiki Scholarship?

The 2nd edition of the Minadiki Scholarship has exceeded our expectations — not just in the quality of its awardees, but in the community energy it has generated. With the support of partners like Engr. Thompson Isodiki already confirmed for the next edition, we are looking ahead with great excitement.

For the upcoming edition, KD Squares is committed to:

  • Expanding the number of scholarship beneficiaries

  • Broadening our reach to include more institutions across Rivers State

  • Creating mentorship opportunities that complement the financial support

  • Building a growing network of community sponsors and philanthropic partners

We believe that the Minadiki Scholarship is not just a programme — it is a movement. A movement that says to every young person in our community: your dreams are valid, your education matters, and we are here to help you get there.

How to Support the KD Squares Minadiki Scholarship

Are you inspired by the stories of our awardees? Do you want to join KD Squares in investing in the future of our community's young people?

There are several ways to get involved:

  • Sponsor a student for the next edition of the Minadiki Scholarship

  • Nominate a deserving candidate from your community

  • Spread the word by sharing this post and our awardee features across your networks

  • Partner with KD Squares to co-develop educational initiatives in Rivers State

To learn more or express interest in partnership, reach out to us directly through our website or social media channels.

Final Words

The KD Squares Minadiki Scholarship 2nd edition is more than a milestone for our organisation — it is a declaration of intent. An intent to show up, year after year, for the brilliant young minds who will one day be the doctors, engineers, lawyers, scientists, and mathematicians who transform our society.

To our ten inaugural awardees: you were chosen because you have already shown the world what you are made of. We cannot wait to see what you will build.

To Engr. Thompson Isodiki: Thank you for showing our community what true leadership looks like. Your generosity will be felt for generations.

And to everyone who believes in the power of education to change lives — welcome to the Minadiki family. The best is truly yet to come.

KD Squares is committed to community development through education, innovation, and purposeful investment in human capital. Follow us on our social media platforms (@kdsquares) and visit our website to stay updated on all our initiatives.
